Lesson Overview

Diamonds in The Bay is an interactive presentation on the Chesapeake Bay and Diamondback Terrapins.

In this lesson, students will learn about the various threats terrapins face, including habitat loss. Students will learn how erosion effects Island habitats and explore the ways that the Port of Baltimore is solving this problem by examining the history of Poplar Island.

We recommend this lesson paired with Turtle Time. The ambassador turtles visiting classes were hatched on Poplar Island and are the main focus of this lesson.

This lesson is dependent on photos and videos. Depending on the age of your students,…

What to know:

  • Requires access to a smart board or projector.- No speaker is required.

  • If you are a TERP teacher, let us know how many of your students have seen the turtle in your school.
